50 years ago yesterday, Bernard Lafayette Jr. traveled to Montgomery, Alabama as 1 of 22 Freedom Riders. Freedom Riders were a racially mixed group of mostly college students who rode throughout the south to test the Supreme Court’s recent ban on segregation in restaurants that served interstate travelers.
